U.S. v. State of Florida Regarding Placement Of Children In Nursing Homes

July 22, 2013
This U.S. District Court, Southern District of Florida case is a complaint against the State of Florida by the United States of America. The plaintiff alleges that nearly 200 children with disabilities in Florida are segregated unnecessarily in nursing facilities. This unnecessary institutionalization denies children the full opportunity to develop and maintain bonds with family and friends, impairs their ability to interact with peers without disabilities, and prevents them from experiencing many of the social and recreational activities that contribute to child development.
