The California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has temporarily suspended Medicaid payments to 46 addiction treatment clinics, and 62 satellite counseling sites, due to credible allegations of Medicaid fraud or inappropriate billing by the clinics. The DHCS has so far referred 36 of the suspended clinics to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) for further investigation. DHCS is working with counties, which contract directly with the clinics to provide services, to resolve any discrepancies between the actions of the centers and their billing of Medi-Cal.
