The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) contracted with MAXIMUS Health Services, Inc. to verify the Medicaid eligibility of the state's 2.7 million Medicaid beneficiaries and to start by clearing a backlog of tardy redeterminations. MAXIMUS reports its progress to HFS monthly; this document has data from January through July 2013. Out of nearly 195,000 case verifications completed, more than 101,276 cases (52%) were ineligible to participate because they did not meet income, residency, or identity criteria.
