U.S. Supreme Court Rejection Of CDCR Application For Stay On Order To Reduce Prison Population

On August 2, 2013, a U.S. Supreme Court justice denied California Governor Jerry Brown’s request for a stay of a previous court order to release 9,600 inmates from the state’s prisons by the end of 2013. The state has appealed the release order to the U.S. Supreme Court; that appeal was filed on August 9, 2013. The Supreme Court is expected to consider the appeal in early to mid-October.
