On August 12, 2025, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York published this class action complaint against the New York State Office of Mental Health, New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, and the New York City Health + Hospitals Corporation. The lawsuit alleges that people with psychiatric disorders have been incarcerated while waiting for court-ordered mental health treatment necessary to proceed with their cases.
