Nebraska DCFS Policy Memo: Use Of UNCOPE Screening Tool To Identify Individuals At Risk For Substance Addiction

The memo was released by the Nebraska Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) to inform stakeholders how to use a six-item screening tool called UNCOPE at child welfare intakes to screen all adults for possible addiction. DCFS started the screenings in August 2012. The goal is to identify individuals at risk of addiction to gather information about the family and issues that may be contributing to child maltreatment or risk of maltreatment. The memo describes the screening and referral process.
