Nebraska Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Program Section 1115(a) Demonstration Amendment
The Nebraska substance use disorder (SUD) program section 1115(a) demonstration amendment was published on August 14, 2026. This demonstration allows for Medicaid coverage of short-term stays for Medicaid recipients between the ages of 21 and 64 diagnosed with serious mental illness or serious emotional disturbance in treatment facilities known as institutions for mental diseases (IMDs). Typically Medicaid does not reimburse for services provided to adults by an IMD, which is defined as a facility with 16 or more beds that provide mental health treatmeent.
