Interim Settlement Agreement In Steward v. Perry

The State of Texas and the federal Department of Justices (DOJs) entered an interim settlement agreement regarding the 2010 Steward et. al. v. Perry et. al. class action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleged that Texas failed to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) because the state lacked adequate community-based housing and services, which forced individuals with disabilities to remain in institutions even if they did not need that level of care. The two-year interim agreement calls for the state of Texas to expand community-based services through Medicaid waivers and individual supports . . .
