Questionable Billing by Community Mental Health Centers
August 22, 2012
This report from the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) for the federal Department of Health and Human Services reviewed billing patterns of community mental health centers (CMHCs) for Medicare partial hospitalization program (PHP) services provided in 2010. The OIG conducted the analysis because past OIG studies have found vulnerabilities in Medicare payments to CMHCs for PHPs. The analysis found that 102 of the 206 CMHCs providing PHP services in 2010 had one or more of nine questionable billing characteristics.
