On August 23, 2016, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) sued the State of Georgia for unnecessarily segregating students with disabilities in its Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support, or GNETS, program. The DOJ alleges that the GNETS program violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) because mental health and therapeutic educational services are not provided in the most integrated settings and services, and programs and benefits available to children in the GNET program are inferior and unequal to services provided to children in the general education environment . . .
