August 25, 2006 CMS Medicare Claims October 2006 Update A new reimbursement schedule adds two new codes to the Level II Health Care Service Procedures Coding System (HCSPCS) used by Medicaid, Medicare, and other third-party payers: one code will be used for drug and alcohol screening and another code will be assigned to brief intervention and counseling. The new codes were added to the HCPCS on June 30, 2006, and will be available on January 1, 2007, for assignment by insurers in accordance with their programs and policies.
