San Francisco County Department Of Public Health Fact Sheet On Assisted Outpatient Treatment

On November 2, 2015, San Francisco County, California launched a new program under Laura’s Law to provide involuntary assisted outpatient treatment (AOT) for adults with untreated serious mental illness (SMI). Before the imposition of court-ordered treatment, the county Department of Public Health Care Team will try to engage individuals referred for AOT in voluntary treatment. The Care Team will be composed of a peer specialist, a forensic psychiatrist, and a family liaison (a person who has a family member with SMI).
