On August 29, 2024, the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA) Office of Inspector General (OIG) published this report that found that a hiring initiative to expand substance use disorder treatment needed stronger coordination, planning, and oversight. The VA OIG conducted this review to assess how well medical centers met the FY 2022 hiring goal for the substance use disorder expansion. The review team also examined FY 2023 expenditures and related hirings since VA will continue its efforts to fund the hiring initiative through at least FY 2025 . . .
