On August 31, 2016, the federal Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division and the State of North Carolina filed this lawsuit against Carolinas Healthcare System (CHS) to end the system'’s practice of requiring anti-competitive restrictions in its contracts with commercial health insurers in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. The restrictions prevent health insurers from launching plans that encourage, or “steer,” consumers to use other medical provider organizations that offer lower priced, higher-quality services . . .
