State’s Collection Of Rebates For Drugs Paid Through Medicaid Managed Care Organizations

In September 2012, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) released a report on state's colelction of rebates for drugs paid through Medicaid managed care organizations (MCO). In October 2011, surveys were sent out to all 50 states and the District of Columbia regarding rebate collection involving MCOs. OIG recommended that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services follow up with the 10 States that had not collected rebates for drugs dispensed to Medicaid MCO beneficiaries and take action to enforce rebate collection if necessary.
