CMS Should Improve Information Available about Dual-Eligible Plans’ Performance

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) was asked to examine Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans for people eligible for Medicare and Medicaid, these specialized plans are called D-SNPs. GAO analyzed the characteristics of dual eligible beneficiaries enrolled in D-SNPs and other Medicare Advantage plans, reviewed differences in the specialized services provided by D-SNPs and other Medicare Advantage plans, and reviewed how D-SNPs work with state Medicaid agencies.
