What Have States Done to Ensure Insurance Parity?
September 2007 This chart lists state-level laws that provide for equal insurance coverage for medical and mental health conditions. The laws vary, and some provide comprehensive parity requirements that include mental health and substance abuse treatment, others specify certain illnesses that must receive the same access to treatment as any other medical condition. As of September 2007, five states Connecticut, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon, and Vermont have enacted laws that require all private insurance plans to cover treatment for mental heath and substance abuse treatment disorders at the same levels as other medical conditions covered by the insurers plan offerings . . .
