H.R. 3162, the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2007
September 2007 The bill, initially entitled the Children's' Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Reauthorization Act of 2007, appropriates nearly $60 billion over the next five years, an increase of $35 billion over the current CHIP funding of $25 billion. It would also extend coverage to children in families with income 300% above the federal poverty level - an increase of 100% over current CHIP levels. It also gives states the option of covering low-income pregnant women. The funding for the increase would come from a 61-cent increase on the cost of cigarettes.
