California Senate Bill 951 Establishing Essential Health Benefits

On September 30, 2012, California Assembly Bill 951 was signed by the governor. The bill was passed to establish the state's essential health benefits benchmark plan for health insurance products sold through the stateÂ’s health insurance exchange. The Patient Potection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) requires each state to, by January 1, 2014, establish an American Health Benefit Exchange that facilitates the purchase of qualified health plans by qualified individuals and qualified small employers.
