TANF and Child Welfare Programs: Increased Data Sharing Could Improve Access to Benefits and Services
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) examined enrollment in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. GAO noted that 40% of TANF cash assistance is provided to families in which only the child qualifies. GAO recommended that the U.S. Department of Human Services (HHS) Administration for Children and Families (ACF) promote data sharing between TANF and state child welfare programs.
