S.2553 – Know the Lowest Price Act of 2018

The bill is one of two new federal laws signed on October 10, 2018, to allow pharmacists to inform consumers about the cost of their medications, and if the costs would be lower if purchased for cash, or if a less expensive generic were substituted. Previously, some insurer agreements, referred to as “pharmacy gag clauses” prevented retail pharmacists from telling consumers anything but the cost of their copayment or co-insurance for prescribed medications.
