New York Attorney General Settlement With Cigna Re: Prior Authoritzation For Medication Assisted Treatment For Opioid Use Disorder

In this letter dated October 19, 2016, the New York Office of the Attorney General announced it had reached a national settlement with Cigna in which Cigna voluntarily agreed to end prior authorization for medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for addiction disorder. The letter notes that Cigna agreed to end prior authorization immediately for  all medications used in MAT for opioid use disorder, including buprenorphine-naloxone, buprenorphine, naltrexone, disulfram, and acamprosate. The change applies to all Cigna commercial plans, including self-funded plans and government-sponsored plans in New York State and nationwide.
