Mentally Ill Offender Crime Reduction: Data Supplement Issue

August 2007 Seven months after 28 California counties started their Mentally Ill Offender Crime Reduction (MIOCR) grant projects, preliminary results show a 96% reduction in jail days for adult offenders and a 70% reduction in detention days for juvenile offenders. The MIOCR programs support locally developed efforts to reduce recidivism and promote long-term stability among mentally ill offenders. Other preliminary results included: Bookings for adult offenders were down by 83% from the previous 12 months.
