Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2008
October 15, 2008 On October 15, 2008, the Ryan Haight Online Pharmacy Consumer Protection Act of 2008 was signed into law. It regulates on-line pharmacies by mandating that consumers must have a valid prescription for controlled substances from a physician who examined the person in person at least once. There is an exception for telemedicine. On-line pharmacies will also be required to specify when registering with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration if they sell controlled substances.
