On October 6, 2012, a study was published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine looking at how social factors impacted the risk of readmission or mortality in individuals hospitalized with pneumonia or heart failure. The study compiled journal articles that looked at social factors impacting readmission and mortality in patients with pneumonia or heart failure. The study found that older age and non-white race were associated with worse outcomes.
