September 30, 2008 The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) and the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) at the federal Department of Health and Human Services are in disagreement about when a 60-day period to report Medicaid overpayments starts. The disagreement is related to a recent review of the FSSA Medicaid Rehabilitation Option (MRO) program surveillance and utilization review (SUR) audits between 2000 through 2005. OIG sought to determine if overpayments identified by SUR audits were correctly reported.
