November 13, 2008 The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is implementing changes to Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plans (SNPs). The changes are authorized by the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008. The panelists in a special SNP selection group attempted to recommend SNP-specific chronic conditions that are highly likely to have nationally recognized protocols and guidelines to support evidence-based care management. The panel was not charged with and did not make judgments based on business considerations, such as the potential profitability of the selected chronic conditions . . .
