CBO Supplemental Security Income: An Overview

In December 2012, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released an overview of supplemental security income. The CBO estimated that in fiscal year 2013, about 8.3 million people will receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments at a federal cost of about $53 billion. People receiving SSI are projected to represent about 2.5% of the entire United States population of 314 million.
