In December 2012, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) released their PPACA-mandated report to Congress on the feasibility of extending the current case-based Medicare Hospital Acquired Condition (HAC) policy to non-IPPS (Inpatient Prospective Payment System) facilities, including inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs), long-term care hospitals (LTCHs), hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs), other hospitals excluded from IPPS, skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs), and health clinics (specifically, RHCs and FQHCs).
