Employer Guide for Compliance with the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act

In December 2012, the Partnership for Workplace Mental Health released a guide prepared by Milliman to help employers assure compliance by their health plan vendors with the requirements of the historic mental health parity law, Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 (MHPAEA). MHPAEA is estimated to affect 113 million people, including 82 million enrolled in self-insured plans. The guide addresses the law, its implementing regulations, Interim Final Rule, and provides a reasonable approach to MHPAEA compliance.
