Inaccurate & Inadequate: Health Plans’ Mental Health Provider Network Directories
On December 7, 2023, the Office of the New York State Attorney General Letitia James published this report titled "Inaccurate and inadequate" regarding health plans' mental health provider organization network directories. The report finds that provider organization directories which contain inaccurate listings or unavailable providers (known as “ghost networks”) result in the frequent inability for consumers to access mental health treatment using their health insurance benefits. As a result, they are forced to choose between paying out of pocket if they can, or going without treatment, which can harm their health . . .
