Veterans Administration Proposed Rule: Secondary Service Connection for Diagnosable Illnesses Associated With Traumatic Brain Injury

The Department of Veterans AffairsÂ’ proposed rule intends to establish that if a veteran who has a service-connected traumatic brain injury (TBI) also has one of a list of five diagnosable illnesses that develops following a TBI, then that illness will be considered service-connected as secondary to the TBI. The five illnesses are ParkinsonÂ’s disease, unprovoked seizures, dementia, depression, and diseases of hormone deficiency that result from hypothalamo-pituitary changes.
