Child Welfare Services: The County Child Welfare Services Agencies We Reviewed Must Provide Better Protection For Abused And Neglected Children

On April 4, 2014, the California State Auditor published a report on three county child welfare services agencies: Butte, Orange, and San Francisco.  The report includes information on: 1) policies and procedures counties follow when considering whether to remove children from their homes; 2) timely preparation of accurate standardized safety and risk assessments; 3) timeframes for follow-ups when in‑person contact with children to investigate reports of child maltreatment were unsuccessful; 4) creation of a credible safety plan to mitigate the safety threat when a decision was made to leave a child in a home that presented a safety . . .
