Clarifying Guidance On Peer Support Services Policy
In May 2013, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued additional clarification on peer support services’ scope and access. The clarification is made to the Peer Support Policy issued in the August 15, 2007 State Medicaid Director Letter (SMDL #07-011). In addition to mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders, peer-to-peer support services can be made available to parents/legal guardians of Medicaid-eligible children (17 and younger) when the service is directed exclusively toward the benefit of a Medicaid-eligible child.
