In April 2007, the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) released a final report that compiles systematic information about the supports waivers that states operate. Support waivers complement the unpaid supports that are provided to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I&DD) by family caregivers. Seventeen states now operate supports waivers side-by-side with the traditional “comprehensive waivers” that provide more extensive services, including licensed residential services furnished outside the family home.
