Payment For Inpatient And Outpatient Health Care Professional Services At Non-Departmental Facilities And Other Medical Charges Associated With Non-VA Outpatient Care

On December 17, 2010, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) published a final rule in the Federal Register (Volume 75, No. 242) establishing use of Medicare payment methodology to calculate VA payments for inpatient and outpatient health care professional services and other medical services associated with non-VA outpatient care in an effort to help the VA contain costs. The regulation governs multiple health service areas including but not limited to outpatient hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, home health, ESRD, and laboratory services.
