Reentry MythBuster! – On Medicaid Suspension vs. Termination For Juveniles
In October 2011, the Cabinet-level Federal Interagency Reentry Council released a MythBuster fact sheet rebutting the myth that states must terminate Medicaid benefits if an otherwise eligible juvenile is incarcerated. The fact sheet states that states are not required to terminate eligibility for individuals who are incarcerated based solely on their confinement. States may suspend eligibility during incarceration, enabling a juvenile to remain enrolled in the state Medicaid program, thereby facilitating access to Medicaid services following release.
