Christine Cox is a professional graphic artist who brings over 16 years of professional visual press journalism to OPEN MINDS as a Subject Matter Expert. Ms. Cox has experience in information design, illustration, animation, and video production, She is also a web and print, and UX interaction designer.
Previously, Ms. Cox created videos for non-profit organizations such as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) where she illustrated and animated videos of refugees’ stories and College Spark which awards grants to colleges that promote diversity. Her journalism experience includes MSBNC, The Seattle Times, and How Stuff Works creating informational and breaking news design.
Ms. Cox was a Senior Content Publisher for the Microsoft Corporation where she created motion graphics and original videos for various demographics, leading a team of vendors to produce 17 weekly original videos, where she used storyboards and sketches for concept ideation. Before joining Microsoft Corporation, Ms. Cox worked as an Advertorial contractor for Discovery Networks where she created Flash animations and promotions based on their various television shows. Ms. Cox was also a Senior Information Designer and an interactive news journalist for MSNBC where she was responsible for the “Breaking News” home page editor. Ms. Cox has earned many awards from the Society of Newspaper Designers and the Society of Professional Journalists. While at the Seattle Times, a project she worked on won a Pulitzer Prize.
Ms. Cox completed the Motion Graphic Synthesis certification program at Video Symphony in Burbank, California, and earned a certification for Final Cut and After Effects. She also taught and completed intensive journalism-design workshops at the Poynter Institute For Media Studies in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Before her professional career, Ms. Cox attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, and California State University – Northridge where she studied Commercial Art Production, Illustration, and Graphic Design. Ms. Cox also taught a senior-level Graphic Illustration program at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington.
