John Sheehan, MBA, brings over 20 years of experience in the behavioral health and human services field to the OPEN MINDS team. His wide range of expertise includes strategic planning and market analysis, revenue cycle analysis, sales and business development, managed care and value-based contracting, and executive leadership.
Prior joining OPEN MINDS, Mr. Sheehan served as the Chief Executive Officer of Lighthouse Tele-health in Toledo, Ohio. In this role, Mr. Sheehan negotiated exclusive staffing and services agreements between Lighthouse Tele-health, Promedica Health System, Mercy Health, St. Luke’s Health and Grafton Integrated Network. Mr. Sheehan’s efforts also led to value-based agreements with Medical Mutual of Ohio, Paramount and Optum Health Plans.
Before becoming the Chief Executive Officer of Lighthouse Tele-health, Mr. Sheehan served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Harbor in Toledo, Ohio. At Harbor, Mr. Sheehan was responsibly for increasing revenue from $28 million in 2013 to $55 million in FY 2020. Mr. Sheehan also implemented a new substance abuse service line that now accounts for 25 percent of revenue, formed a for-profit subsidiary, and assisted with organizational mergers. Mr. Sheehan further expanded Harbor from 280 employees to over 600 employees during his tenure.
Prior to his role at Harbor, Mr. Sheehan served as the Owner and Lead Consultant for All Tier Health Care Consulting, where he focused on strategic planning, new business development, quality improvement, and revenue cycle analysis.
Previously, Mr. Sheehan served as the Vice President and Executive Director of Behavioral Health Services for Baycare Health System. In this role, Mr. Sheehan was responsible for quality and operational excellence in the delivery of treatment services. Operations scope included more than 20,000 Psychiatric ER screenings, 12,500 annual hospital impatient discharges, and 120,000 annual outpatient visits for 232 hospital-based impatient beds, 4 psychiatric emergency rooms, and more than 40 residential outpatient centers.
Mr. Sheehan received a Master of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He also received a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing from Florida State University. Mr. Sheehan also serves as a fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives.
