Martha Jones is an experienced health care communications and marketing executive with more than 15 years of experience developing strategies that build awareness, strengthen market positioning, and support organizational growth. Her expertise spans health systems, academic medical centers, insurers, health technology companies, behavioral health, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology. Ms. Jones is particularly skilled at translating complex clinical and technical information into clear, compelling messaging for executives, investors, physicians, consumers, and other key stakeholders.
Prior to joining the OPEN MINDS team, Ms. Jones served as President & Marketing Executive of Counsel at Martha Jones Ink, LLC, a boutique communications firm serving health care, research, and health technology organizations. In this role, she advised organizations on marketing, communications, thought leadership, and growth strategy, with clients including Capital One and TripleTree, Duke Health, UCare, and a range of biotech, pharmaceutical, digital health, and medical device companies. Her work has included launching Vivli Europe, supporting three years of unprecedented member growth at UCare, and developing a strategic plan for Duke Health that helped surpass a $100 million philanthropic goal.
Ms. Jones also served as Director, Clinical Affairs & Communications and Director, Marketing Communications at Genomic Life, where she led product marketing and go-to-market strategy for a precision medicine startup. She developed an omnichannel marketing approach to drive adoption of genomic oncology solutions and worked across teams to align product positioning, commercialization strategy, and organizational growth goals.
Previously, as Division Chair, Development Communications & Marketing Strategist at Mayo Clinic, Ms. Jones led communications and marketing supporting research discovery and clinical innovation. She developed the organization’s first $30 million strategic marketing plan and oversaw communications, branding, and marketing for a $3 billion development campaign. Earlier, as Vice President, Corporate Communications & Public Relations at UnitedHealth Group, she oversaw communications supporting the organization’s $30 billion Medicare portfolio and served as a spokesperson and advisor to executive leadership on media, government relations, and reputational risk.
Ms. Jones holds a Master of Arts in Public Affairs and Administration from George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Psychology from Augustana University. She previously served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Minnesota School of Journalism and Communications and is a columnist on senior health.
