Biography

Mohamed Atta brings over 35 years of experience in health care to OPEN MINDS as an Advisory Board Member.

 

In addition to his work with OPEN MINDS, Dr. Atta is the Director of Johns Hopkins Von Hippel-Lindau Clinical Care Center. The Johns Hopkins Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) Clinical Center is nationally recognized by the VHL Committee for its commitment to patients and families living with VHL, a rare genetic condition that increases the risk of developing certain tumors, most commonly in the brain, spine, pancreas, eyes, and ears. Dr. Atta is also a member of the Promotion Committee, Department of Medicine, at Johns Hopkins and a Faculty Member of The Johns Hopkins Center for Global Health in Baltimore, Maryland.

 

Previously, Dr. Atta was the Medical Director for Fresenius Dialysis Center, Broadway, in Baltimore, Maryland. Before his work at Fresenius, Dr. Atta was an Associate Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland for over 10 years.

Dr. Atta was also the Medical Director for DaVita Health Care 25th street Dialysis Unit in Baltimore, Maryland for a decade. Dr. Atta has over 36 publications on a variety of topics including kidney disease, HIV, pulmonary, and cardiovascular research and medicine. Dr. Atta also has over 20 published review articles, editorials, and case reports. He has also written nearly 10 chapters in a variety of medical books and has participated in numerous media releases, interviews, and medical seminars.

 

Dr. Atta is a Doctoral Graduate from Mansoura University School of Medicine in Egypt in 1986 with a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery. Dr. Atta also completed a clerkship at Rikshopitalet University School of Medicine in Oslo, Norway, and a rotating internship at Mansoura University Hospital in Egypt. Dr. Atta was also a Resident in the Renal Division, Urology, and Nephrology Center, at Mansoura University Hospital in Egypt and a Medical Internal Resident at Cabrini Medical Center in New York. Dr. Atta completed a Clinical and Research Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, and has a Master in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Atta also has a graduate certificate in Business of Medicine from Johns Hopkins Carey Business School in Baltimore, Maryland.
