Texas Expanding Coaching Program At State I/DD Centers
The Texas State Supported Living Centers (SSLCs) for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) will implement a system-wide program, called Choices, for its staff. The curriculum is designed to improve staff skills for supporting emotional regulation of residents.
Choices is a stand-alone program based on dialectical behavior therapy, which emphasizes mindfulness, acceptance, and emotion regulation. The program training lasts one hour but may be lengthened or shortened depending on the needs of the individuals and staff. The training was developed through research and staff feedback, and incorporated elements of existing programs and strategies. SSLCs will also expand . . .
