57% Of School Superintendents Foresee Scaling Back COVID-19 Investments By 2024

A total of 57% of surveyed school superintendents said that after federal coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) emergency funds (American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds) run out in September 2024, their districts will need to cut or scale back summer programming. A total of 53% of superintendents say their districts will also have to end personnel contracts with specialized staff, such as counselors, social workers, and reading teachers. Following use of ARP funds to respond to COVID-19-related education setbacks, district leaders are now concerned about how to sustain the ARP investments, or how to phase out certain programs.
