In 2020, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was the top cause of death for people with intellectual and/or developmental disability (I/DD) in the United States. It was the third highest cause of death (after heart disease and cancer) for people without I/DD. Among all those who died during 2020, among those with I/DD the percentage of deaths due to COVID-19 was 1.6 times higher than those without I/DD.
