After Prison, North Carolina Individualized Reentry Plans Are Reducing Recidivism For Offenders With I/DD
About 86% of North Carolina offenders with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) who participated in an individualized reentry planning (IRP) program to prevent recidivism have avoided rearrest and return to prison. The program, called “Justice: Release, Reentry, and Reintegration,” launched in July 2020. As of July 2022, 130 offenders with I/DD housed at 13 North Carolina prisons have participated.
