1 In 10 Americans Over 65 Have Dementia
One in 10 Americans over 65 have dementia, and another 22% have mild cognitive impairment. The risk of developing dementia increased by 95% with every five-year increase in age, and the risk of mild cognitive impairment rose 17%. The prevalence of dementia was higher among older Black adults. The prevalence of mild cognitive impairment was higher among older Hispanic adults. The prevalence of both conditions was higher among people who did not graduate from high school compared to those with higher educational attainment.
