Automated Texts From Primary Care Team Decrease Odds Of Rehospitalization
Following hospitalization discharge, automated texts from a primary care team decreased the odds of rehospitalization by 55%, compared to individuals who did not get texts. Researchers also found a 41% reduction in the odds that individuals who receive texts would need emergency care of any kind over the next 30 days, compared to individuals that did not receive texts (a reduction from 20.3% to 16.5% for the intervention practice).
Of 301 text-related escalations (return messages indicating issues), 86.4% were in response to an automated check-in, and 13.6% were initiated by the health care consumer . . .
