New Risk Score Tool Provides Accurate Predictions Of Dementia Patterns
A newly developed tool can accurately predict the risk that an individual will develop dementia over the next 13 years. The tool considers an individual’s risk factors associated with development of dementia. These factors include socioeconomic adversity, sleep phenotypes, physical activity, and comorbidities, including diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, respiratory disease, and cancer. Men and women shared some modifiable risk and protective factors, and they presented independent risk factors that accounted for 31.7% of dementia cases in men and 53.4% of cases in women.
