Ohio Auditor Finds ‘Significant Errors’ & Ineligible Payments Across Medicaid System
The Ohio Medicaid benefit system has been unable to ensure that county caseworkers disenroll residents who are receiving benefits from multiple states when caseworkers are alerted to potential problems. In June, September, and December of 2021, 42,807 Ohio Medicaid recipients were enrolled in Medicaid in one or more other states. As a result, the Ohio Department of Medicaid may have made improper capitation payments totaling between $5.3 million and $24 million each year on behalf of ineligible beneficiaries. The Ohio Medicaid program serves 2.9 million beneficiaries at a cost of $28 billion.
