TRICARE Adds Freestanding End Stage Renal Disease Facilities As An Institutional Provider Organization Type

The TRICARE military health care program is adding freestanding End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) facilities as a new authorized institutional provider organization type. On January 12, 2023, the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (ASDHA) issued an interim final rule (IFR) to add the facility type and establish reimbursement for institutional services provided by freestanding ESRD facilities. The IFR went into effect immediately.
